The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) are supporting Vision Zero– a future where no one is killed or seriously injured on Essex roads. Last week, we were out across the county educating young people, engaging communities, and enforcing the rules that keep us all safe.
Road safety education in schools
Our team delivered practical road safety sessions to hundreds of year five pupils, focusing on safe crossing, awareness of distractions, and visibility. Schools including South Green Juniors (Billericay), Thorpe Hall (Southend-on-Sea), Collingwood (South Woodham Ferrers), and The Phoenix School (Basildon) took part.
Hands-on learning helps young people develop real-life road safety skills, setting them up for safer journeys today and in the future.
Young driver awareness
At Southend College and Thurrock, over 80 students took part in young driver sessions covering responsible driving, peer pressure, and decision-making. These talks help young people build safer habits as they learn to drive.
Targeted enforcement across Essex
Last week, our team covered 30 high-risk sites, and while were driving responsibly, officers still captured almost 300 speeding offences. Locations included Clacton, Cold Norton, Noak Bridge, Harwich, Billericay, and more.
Some of the highest speeds recorded included 97mph in a 70mph limit and 55mph in a 30mph limit- clear examples of dangerous driving that puts lives at risk.
This targeted enforcement was driven by collision data, community feedback, and Community Speed Watch intelligence, helping us reduce serious incidents before they happen.
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility
From engaging with schools through to roadside checks- every part of our work supports the Vision Zero mission.
