The enjoyment gained from riding a motorcycle skilfully and safely is second to none; however, it takes confidence, excellent riding skills, physical co-ordination, and balance.

SERP offers a range of training course for motorcyclists including:

FireBike Better Biking Course: A half-day course providing advice, guidance and assessed ride feedback designed to improve your existing road riding skills and help you to enjoy safer biking even more.

FireBike Advanced Machine Skills Course: A full day course, the focus of which is machine control – slow speed handling, positive steering, merging exercises, swerving skills, emergency avoidance techniques and advanced braking skills.

Street Spirit

The Street Spirit campaign calls on young riders to enhance their knowledge on safe riding by watching five short videos and completing a quiz.

  • Data reveals that riders of powered two wheeled (P2W) vehicles are the highest road user risk group in Essex.
  • In 2022, they made up just 0.6% of the traffic in Essex but accounted for 24% of deaths and serious injuries.
  • In the same year, over 28% of all P2W collisions resulting in death or serious injury involved young riders (aged 16 to 25).

Mobility scooters

NTU See and Scoot training highlights the hazards which mobility scooter users may encounter whilst out on the roads. It was developed by the Transport Research in Psychology group at Nottingham Trent University as part of a two-year research grant from the Road Safety Trust.

The 20-minute video should be useful for both new and existing users.
