Vision Zero Day of Action – Braintree

A proactive day of enforcement and engagement took place across Braintree, bringing partners together to support the shared ambition of Vision Zero,  eliminating deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads.

At the enforcement sites on the day, 52 drivers were stopped and spoken to about their driving behaviours and their role in preventing serious collisions.

Enforcement Activity Highlights:

  • 21 mobile phone offences
  • 31 seatbelt offences
  • Four vehicles seized for no insurance
  • Three drivers reported for careless driving
  • Four arrests for drug driving

Across Braintree and Witham, the enforcement team recorded 92 offences, alongside positive engagement from the public.

Education and Community Engagement

The day began at Beckers Green Primary School, where team spoke with around 80 children and parents during the morning drop-off. Conversations focused on safer behaviours around schools and the importance of protecting vulnerable road users. Parking enforcement officers issued two tickets for unsafe parking.

In the town centre, the engagement team connected with 127 members of the public, raising awareness of Vision Zero and encouraging safer choices on the road.

Working with Schools

At Beckers Green Primary School, pupils also took part in School Speed Watch, speaking directly to 17 drivers who were exceeding the 30mph limit. The highest speed recorded during this session was 40mph, with drivers clearly impacted by hearing road safety messages from the children themselves.

Community Speed Watch

Panfield Community Speed Watch volunteers monitored seven speeding vehicles, with speeds ranging from 36mph to 45mph in a 30mph limit.

A Collective Effort

This coordinated activity highlights the importance of combining enforcement, education and community engagement to influence behaviour and improve safety for everyone.
