Surewise Commits to Reducing Road Deaths and Injuries by Signing Essex Vision Zero Pledge

Surewise, a national mobility scooter insurance intermediary, has strengthened its commitment to reducing road deaths and injuries by signing the Essex Vision Zero pledge.

The Vision Zero pledge – the first of its kind in the UK – was launched by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership in May 2023, giving individuals, schools, businesses, and organisations across the county an opportunity to make their own commitment to reducing road harm.

Vision Zero is the ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the roads by 2040.

Earlier this year, Surewise, based in Hadleigh, Essex, launched its ‘Safer Mobility Campaign’, highlighting the risks faced by mobility scooter users when traveling on or near roads. The company signed the pledge as it aligns with its mission to protect mobility scooter users and raise awareness about road safety issues.

The campaign was developed after research revealed that mobility scooter drivers are more than twice as likely to be killed in a road crash than other road users. The company’s claims team also regularly receives calls from distressed customers who have been injured in collisions, emphasising the urgent need for improved road safety measures.

Richard Hannan, Director at Surewise, said:  “We are proud to have signed the Essex Vision Zero pledge, which reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting road safety and protecting mobility scooter users, who are incredibly vulnerable when they use the roads. By collaborating with the Safer Essex Roads Partnership, we aim to make a positive impact on road safety initiatives in Essex and across the UK.”
