The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) is asking for artists across the county to register their artistic expression to bring road safety campaign, Vision Zero, to life.
This year’s Road Safety Week theme is: “After the crash, every victim matters” and as part of that, the SERP are looking for a local artist or group, to bring our important Vision Zero campaign to life, and to give Essex road traffic victims, and their families, a voice.
Vision Zero is the shared objective to have no death or serious injuries on Essex roads, by 2040, but in order to achieve Vision Zero, everyone needs to play their part.
The SERP are looking to commission a local artist that ideally has had experience in outdoor wall or subway type painting and has a unique creative idea to bring Vision Zero to life.
Communications Manager, Caroline Churchouse, said: “Last year, 44 people died on Essex roads. That’s 44 individuals that had family and friends that loved them dearly, and this Road Safety Week, we want to remember them, and to promote the ideal that Vision Zero isn’t just an unreachable target- it’s the only morally correct one.”
“The SERP believe that a Vision Zero mural is a great way to engage with a variety of Essex residents. We want it to be sparking important interactions from passersby and become a recognised beacon in motivating an important societal change- that road death is not inevitable, and we can help to bring our figures down to zero in Essex if we work together.”
The SERP request Essex- based artists/ artist groups register their interest, by emailing: serp.communications@essex.gov.uk
