Operation Limit has scored more success in making the roads of Essex safer.

The police operation, targeting drug and drink driving across the county, was in Southend on Saturday and saw most people driving safely, with the public expressing support for officers on the ground. The tactics used by the police proved highly effective at identifying people driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

During just one day of activity in one location, officers recorded:

• 31 arrests: 25 for drink or drug driving
89 Traffic Offence Reports
18 vehicle seizures
109 speeding offences, all in 30mph areas

Every one of those arrests represents a potential serious or fatal collision prevented, but it also shows the scale of the risk on our roads.

Those charged with drink driving will all be in court by the end of this week, as part of the courts’ commitment to supporting our Christmas activity.

We all have a role to play in achieving Vision Zero; stopping impaired driving is just one of the things that will contribute to eliminating deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

If you witness dangerous behaviour or suspect someone is about to drink or drug drive, speak up.
