Over the past two weeks, The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) enforcement team has been out across Essex responding to community concerns, supporting Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers, protecting vulnerable road users at school sites, and joining dedicated Operation Vision Zero days of action in Braintree and Colchester.

North Essex
In Chelmsford, Writtle and Witham (three sites), the highest speed recorded was 56mph in a 30mph limit. Residents were pleased to see officers and spoke about ongoing concerns, helping shape further targeted enforcement.
On the A12 at Hatfield Peverel and Terling Hall, the highest speed recorded was 94mph in a 70mph limit, whilst on the A130, the highest speed recorded was 98mph in a 70mph and in Brentwood (Coxtie Green Road), the highest speed was 41mph in a 30mph limit.
Operation Vision Zero– Braintree
Enforcement took place at Rayne Road, A1053, Cressing Road and Black Notley, where residents came out to thank officers for tackling speeding in their communities.
Operation Vision Zero– Colchester
Sites included Boxted, Dedham, Heckfordbridge and Colchester central.
In North Colchester (Wakes Colne, Wormingford and Fordham), officers supported CSW in Wormingford, with residents taking to social media to say a huge thank you for the team’s presence.
South Essex

In Basildon, Wickford and along the A13, seven offences were recorded at speeds over 100mph in a 70mph limit, including one motorbike rider.
Enforcement also took place at Golden Jubilee Way, A13, Bread and Cheese Hill, Rayleigh Road, Radwinter Avenue and Pound Lane. With great news at Radwinter Avenue, where zero offences were recorded.
Following resident concerns about speeding and noisy cruise vehicles at Golden Jubilee Way, officers attended and there were 12 offences recorded within 15 minutes.
Further patrols covered Benfleet, Canvey, Hadleigh, and Southend (Maplin Way and Thorpe Hall Avenue), with lots of support from the public.
West Essex
Enforcement took place across Epping Forest, Ongar, Brentwood, Harlow, Chigwell, Waltham Abbey, Stanford Rivers, Ingatestone, Margaretting and Hutton, with the highest speed recorded an astonishing 94mph in a 40mph limit.
In total, 1,030 offences were recorded during this period.
Community Highlights
• An elderly couple stopped Essex Police officers to say how reassured they felt seeing enforcement in their area, sharing that it made them feel safer both driving and walking locally.
• A huge number of smiles, thumbs up and positive interactions from road users.
• Two school sites covered in Vange and Billericay, with strong support from parents, children, and dog walkers.
Together, through enforcement, education, and engagement, The SERP continues to work toward Vision Zero, the shared aspiration for zero deaths or serious injuries on Essex roads, by 2040.
