Weekly Round-Up: Community Engagement and Continued Enforcement in Essex

Last week may have been quieter than usual due to half term, but the Safer Essex Roads Partnership’s (SERP)  mission towards Vision Zero, the shared aspiration toward eliminating deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads by 2040, continued.

The team attended Loughton Police Station Open Day on Wednesday, which was a fantastic opportunity to speak with residents about the SERP’s work and how we all play a part in achieving safer roads. A special guest on the day included retired police dog, Baloo, proudly wearing her Crufts bravery ribbon.

Meanwhile, the enforcement team was active across the county, focusing on 30mph and 40mph speed limits and working with Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers in Wakes Colne. Here’s a breakdown of the week’s activity:

  • Monday (Braintree)- 71 offences recorded across multiple 30mph sites including Gershwin Boulevard, Hatfield Road and Church Road.
  • Thursday (Billericay, Stock, Ramsden Heath) – 20 offences at 30mph locations.
  • Friday (Southend) – Targeting roads such as Maplin Way and Thorpe Hall Avenue, with 30mph limit enforcement and a visit to Wakes Colne with CSW to support local volunteers and address repeat speeding concerns. 75 offences in total.
  • Saturday (Chelmsford, Wickford, Sandon) – 65 offences captured in 30 and 40mph areas including Beaulieu and Radwinter Avenue.

In total, 231 offences were recorded; a reminder that even during school holidays, the need for safer driving remains critical. Most drivers were travelling safely, but every offence captured represents a risk that could have been avoided.
