Last week, The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) continued to combine education, enforcement, and engagement to drive forward our shared commitment to Vision Zero, a future with no deaths or serious injuries on Essex roads.
Engagement on the ground
The team attended Clacton Police Station Open Day, joining forces with Essex Fire and Rescue to speak with residents about the importance of safer driving and our Vision Zero pledge. The event was a great success, with strong public support and meaningful conversations around everyday road behaviour and how each of us plays a role in making our roads safer.
Empowering young people
At St Francis Catholic Primary School, pupils showcased their learning through creative road safety posters and participated in practical sessions where they demonstrated patience, awareness, and responsible road-crossing skills, embedding safe habits for the future.
Enforcement activity: visibility where it’s least expected
While most road users continue to drive safely and responsibly, the SERP’s enforcement team remain focused on visible enforcement across a wide range of locations in particular, risky sites identified by Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers and casualty data.
Here’s a breakdown of the week’s enforcement activity:
Tuesday- (Thurrock): 53 offences – High Road (Corringham), B1420 and Devonshire Road.
Wednesday- (Harlow and surrounding areas): 152 offences – including 50mph in a 30mph (Theydon Bois), 52mph in a 30mph (Weald Bridge), 90mph in a 70mph (M11).
Thursday- (Basildon, Wickford, A130): 65 offences – highest speed 78mph in a 50mph limit on Golden Jubilee Way.
Friday- (Maldon, Goldhanger, Bicknacre, Beaulieu): 99 offences – included enforcement at repeat CSW locations.
Saturday- (Benfleet, Canvey, Wickford, Rayleigh Road): 50 offences – with strong public engagement and support.
Last weekend also included earlier deployments:
- Colchester, Heckfordbridge, Tolleshunt D’Arcy: 51 offences (30mph limits).
- Chelmsford, Billericay, A130 Rettendon: 110 offences – including speeds of 53mph in a 30mph and 97mph in a 70mph.
Total weekly enforcement: 419 offences across Essex.
Each offence recorded represents behaviour that could endanger lives.
Whether you’re walking, riding, or driving- every decision you make on the road has consequences. From safe speeds to wearing seat belts, we all have a part to play. If you haven’t already, take the Vision Zero pledge today and show your support for safer roads: www.saferessexroads.org/visionzero
