The SERP’s countywide speed checks raises concerns with headlight flashing.
Our enforcement team have been busy undertaking speed checks across the county.
There was a total of 70 offences spread across 11 sites:
- Queens Park Ave, Billericay (30) 10
- Main Road, Margaretting (40) 1
- Dunmow Road, Leaden Roding (30) 5
- A1060, Hatfield Heath, (30) 1
- The Street, Sheering (30) 1
- Dunmow Road, Fyfield (30) 3
- A414, Ongar (30) 21
- A113, Stanford Rivers (30) 1
- Ongar Road, Abridge (30) 1
- Chigwell Rise, Chigwell (30) 4
- Epping New Road, Buckhurst Hill (3) 22
During the checks, it was noted some drivers were flashing to warn oncoming speeders, who then as a direct result were under the limit and remained the same risk. Headlight flash warnings were even see to have occurred outside schools, with children walking.
Not only is it a criminal offence to warn drivers of a speed enforcement site, it harms efforts to reduce risky driving behaviours – around 40% of those killed on the roads of Essex died in crashes where inappropriate speed was a factor.
The SERP continue to work toward our strive for Vision Zero- no death or serious injuries on Essex roads by 2040. We ask the public to take this on as a shared objective: www.saferessexroads.org/VisionZero
