Zero compromise on road safety.
Yesterday, the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) joined forces with partners to surround Thurrock in support of Vision Zero, the shared aspiration that no one should be killed or seriously injured on Essex roads.
Targeting the Fatal Four

Essex Police carried out high visibility enforcement across the district, focusing on risky driving behaviour, including speeding, mobile phone use, drink and drug driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
Over 70 tickets were issued for various offences, including:
– 26 mobile phone offences
– 22 seatbelt offences
– One arrest for drug driving
Ten vehicles were seized, including three illegal e-scooters. It’s not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, which means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres. If a privately-owned e-scooter is used in public, it carries the risk of being seized for having no insurance.
Engagement at the Centre
Vision Zero is about more than enforcement; it’s about conversation and changing behaviour.

- 40 drivers and riders were spoken to at Lodge Lane, Grays.
• 56 parents and pupils discussed road safety with the SERP team at Chadwell Primary School, with a further 142 students and parents at Thameside Library during a careers festival.
Speed Enforcement Across the District
Essex Police attended key hotspots, including Corringham, Purfleet, Devonshire Road and Tank Hill Road, capturing 137 offences, and while many road users were driving safely, the level of offending shows why this work remains vital.
Why It Matters
While Vision Zero recognises that while mistakes happen, deaths and serious injuries are preventable. Through education, enforcement and engagement, the SERP continue working together to reduce harm on Thurrock’s roads.
Because one death on our roads is one too many.
