Over the past two weeks, enforcement and engagement activity from the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) has taken place across Essex, with teams operating throughout the county.
Enforcement Locations
In the south, enforcement from Essex Police took place across Benfleet, Rayleigh, Hockley, Hullbridge, Wickford, Ramsden Heath and Pitsea. In the north, activity covered Chelmsford, Chelmer Road, the A130, Braintree, Panfield, Great Dunmow, Takeley, Saffron Walden and Great Chesterford. In the west, officers were active in Chipping Ongar, Harlow, Brentwood, and Epping Forest.

Community Support at the Roadside
Community engagement remained a key strength throughout the operation. Officers reported a high number of positive interactions at the roadside, with residents expressing appreciation for visible enforcement.
Enforcement was support by Community Speed Watch volunteers in Roydon, who demonstrated the importance of local efforts to tackle speeding concerns.
Offences Identified
Encouragingly, Radwinter Avenue in Wickford saw a significant reduction in offences, with only two recorded across three visits during the two-week period, demonstrating the positive impact of continued enforcement and visibility. However, a number of serious offences were identified. These included a probationary (P-plate) driver travelling at 87mph in a 70mph limit on the A130, and a van subject to a lower speed restriction recorded at 86mph in a 60mph limit on the A120. In addition, a group of cruiser vehicles were detected travelling in convoy at speeds of up to 70mph in a 50mph limit on Golden Jubilee Way.
In total, 2,502 offences were recorded across the two weeks of activity.
Working Towards Vision Zero
Continued enforcement and engagement highlight the commitment of partners to improving road safety across Essex, responding to community concerns, and supporting safer driving behaviours on Essex roads. This work directly supports the Vision Zero aspiration to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the road network.
