It was another busy and positive week for the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP), with teams working across Essex to support Vision Zero through education, engagement and enforcement. Despite the freezing weather conditions, the team continued to deliver high visibility activity and meaningful engagement with communities.
Road Safety Education in Schools

Road safety education remained a key focus this week, with visits to several schools across the county.
At Milwards Primary School, Year 5 pupils proudly shared posters they had created as part of their pedestrian road safety training, demonstrating strong understanding and creativity around keeping themselves and others safe.
Sessions were also delivered at Janet Duke Primary School, Buttsbury Infant School and The Willows Primary School in Basildon, including Early Years Reception sessions which were attended by parents and carers. Pupils showed excellent engagement, with one child summing it up perfectly: “The outside of our school should be safe for everyone.”
Further Early Years sessions took place at Perryfields Infants in Chelmsford and Broomgrove Infants in Colchester, again supported by parents and carers, helping to reinforce road safety messages at home and in the wider community.
Enforcement and Community Engagement
Alongside education, enforcement teams were out across Essex focusing on known collision hotspots, vulnerable road user areas including schools, and locations highlighted by residents as areas of concern.
Throughout the week, officers worked across Benfleet, Canvey Island, Rayleigh, Maldon, Basildon, Billericay and Wickford, responding directly to local reports of speeding and antisocial driving.

A total of 333 offences were recorded across the week, with enforcement activity spread as follows:
Tuesday saw activity across Benfleet, Canvey and Rayleigh with 44 offences detected, while Wednesday focused on the Maldon district before moving into Basildon and Billericay with 45 offences. Thursday covered Maldon, Billericay, Wickford and Basildon with 37 offences.
Over the weekend, teams returned to Billericay and Basildon, including new sites developed from resident concerns.
Saturday and Sunday – Billericay – Basildon
The team visited Norsey Road and Swan Lane following local resident concerns of anti social driving, including speeding vehicles and additionally:
Radwinter Avenue 63 offences
Queens Park Avenue – 80 offences
Wash Road – 64 offences
Strong Public Support
Across the week, officers experienced an incredible level of positive interaction. Residents, pedestrians, cyclists and dog walkers stopped to speak with teams, offering feedback, support and thanks. In the Maldon district particularly, residents came out of their homes to show appreciation, with some even offering hot drinks during sub zero temperatures.
Working Towards Vision Zero
Every conversation, school visit and enforcement action contributes to the shared ambition of Vision Zero, where no one is killed or seriously injured on Essex roads. By combining education, engagement and enforcement, the SERP continue to work alongside communities to make Essex roads safer for everyone.
