Early Years Road Safety Sessions Relaunched in Chelmsford

The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) proudly relaunched its Early Years Road Safety sessions on Friday, kicking off with a visit to Moulsham Infant School in Chelmsford.

The session welcomed 90 Reception-aged children and 34 parents across three classes, all eager to learn how to stay safe near roads.

Designed to support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning goals, the session combines practical demonstrations and fun, interactive activities to help children understand road safety basics, such as the Green Cross Code and the importance of holding an adult’s hand near traffic.

Parents also welcomed the initiative, with one commenting: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic that you’re doing these sessions in schools.”

These sessions are just one part of the wider road safety support the SERP offers primary schools across Essex. From pedestrian skills and workshops to educational assemblies and classroom resources- we are here to help build safer travel habits from the earliest years.

The Early Years Road Safety programme is just one of many SERP interventions aimed at preventing serious harm on Essex roads- starting with the youngest road users. As part of the Vision Zero ambition, which seeks to eliminate all road deaths and serious injuries by 2040, these sessions empower children and their families with the knowledge and confidence to make safe choices for life.
