The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) partners, Essex Police, were across Brentwood and Thurrock as part of the latest Operation Limit, continuing the partnership’s work to tackle dangerous driving and keep roads safe.

Operation Limit takes a zero-tolerance approach to traffic offences, with officers proactively stopping drivers for issues such as speeding and vehicle defects. These stops often lead to further roadside checks, including drink and drug testing, helping officers identify drivers who pose the greatest risk to others on the road.
The Operation Limit in Brentwood and Thurrock returns show why these enforcement days remain so important.
- 115 Traffic Offence Reports issued, mainly for excess speed.
- 108 speeding offences detected, all in 30mph limits.
- 17 vehicles seized for offences such as no insurance or licence.
- 17 arrests, 16 involving drink or drug driving.
Across the six Operation Limits held so far in the last year, officers have made 107 arrests.
Speeding and driving under the influence of drink or drugs are among the ‘Fatal Four’ behaviours most linked to serious collisions, which is why targeted operations like this play a key role in the work of the SERP.
By combining enforcement, education and community engagement, partners are working together to support Vision Zero – the ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads by 2040 or sooner.
