Last week, our team was out across the county for four days of targeted speed and road safety activity, supporting our shared Vision Zero goal: zero deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads.

Across the county, officers attended a wide range of sites highlighted for high-risk driving behaviour and noted significantly lower speeds and fewer offences as a direct result of visible enforcement.

Little Hallingbury, Hatfield Heath, Sheering, North Weald.
11 offences recorded
North Essex
Including the A120, where the highest speed captured was 95mph in a 70mph.
Locations included Elsenham, Takeley Park and Henham.
149 offences recorded
Central Essex
Great Baddow, Woodham Ferrers, Queens Park Avenue, A130.
214 offences recorded
South Essex and Southend
Cranes Farm, Broadmayne, Wash Road, Main Road Rettendon, A13.
Southend locations: Maplin Way, Thorpe Hall, Star Lane, Southchurch Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Kings Road.
Shoeburyness: Main Road.

Community Impact and Vision Zero
During the four days, officers spoke with over 50 residents, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many residents expressed relief at seeing enforcement in areas with vulnerable road users, including outside sheltered accommodation where safe crossing is essential.
One resident told officers: “Thank you, I feel safe today crossing. The speeds are low which means I don’t have to rush.”
Whilst another said: “It’s so good to see officers in our area. Because we are rural, we don’t often get to speak with police and they’ve been lovely.”
Total across the four days: 718 offences
Every intervention, every conversation and every recorded offence contributes to safer roads for all.
The SERP will continue delivering high-visibility enforcement and community engagement as part of our county-wide commitment to Vision Zero: www.saferessexroads.org/visionzero
