Road safety is important for everyone. It is never too early to introduce road safety to children.
Safer Essex Road Partnership work under the ethos of no harm. All the educational interventions delivered are designed with best practice and research in road safety.
Road safety fortunately is greatly researched and evaluated, with a number of pieces of research into education. Documented evidence shows that campaigns using gore and scare tactics do not work and can encourage contrary behaviours or cause trauma – Threat appeals in behaviour change (PDF)
You can read more about the subject here:
Teenagers ‘can’t be shocked’ into becoming safer drivers (roadsafetygb.org.uk)
The Safer Essex Roads Partnership develop interventions based on the data gathered on collisions in Essex. Area of high risk are then targeted with suitable activities based on the objectives and age group of the participants focusing on behaviour change techniques which are proven to be effective. With progression of objectives throughout school year groups.
If you should wish to find out more about our programmes, we would be happy to share our objectives and methods. We aim to evaluate and review all of our interventions.
Pre-schools
At the moment, we do not have any sessions we can run in pre-schools. THINK! offer a range of resources tailored to pre-schools here: https://www.think.gov.uk/education-resources/explore-education-resources/?age%5B%5D=3-to-6

Other ways we can support your setting
We support freshers’ fairs, careers fairs and events throughout the year at no cost to the instruction. Young people are most at risk; globally, road traffic crashes are a leading cause of death among young people, and the main cause of death among those aged 15–29 years.
Feedback
"Great presentation. Thank you. Children were able to recall the keywords and actions very well, catchy, and memorable for them.
"A lovely session and especially the song at the end!! We will be using that in class. Just the right length and great visuals to help keep them focused."
Reception teacher
"As a driver, I was surprised by some of the information coming from the session! It has definitely made me re-evaluate to ensure that pedestrians are always safe when I am on the road. For the children, it was very informative without being scary.
"It was very well structured and very engaging to the children. They were able to look at pictures that they can see in everyday life and an impactful clip to get the message across. The children were keen to put their hand up and share their stories and ideas. Question time at the end was given to promote children to clarify their learning. The presentation was well paced. There were many road safety issues covered."
Year 5 teacher
"More examples like this need to happen seeing the children and answering their questions makes me feel how a split second can change a life"
"I know for a fact that being stopped and questioned by the children had a lasting impact on me. It was a very eye opening experience. The children were so lovely, and their questions really brought home the importance of driving safely. Thank you to everyone involved. And I am sorry I was speeding…"
