Advice for parents and guardians

Learning to drive is an exciting milestone for young people, representing freedom and independence, but it also comes with its risks. New drivers are most vulnerable on the roads and the chances of being involved in a collision is highest in the first year after passing their test.
As a parent or carer, you play a vital role in setting safe boundaries when your teenager first starts driving.
Why does it matter?
1️⃣ Young drivers are more likely to take risks or be distracted, especially when carrying friends of a similar age.
2️⃣ Research shows that one peer-aged passenger will increase the risk of a crash, while multiple passengers increase this danger even further.
3️⃣ Driving at night also raises this risk- think reduced visibility, fatigues and social- based distractions.
