SERP will use V Festival to deliver road safety messages

SERP V Fest

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS), working in partnership with other SERP colleagues, will be attending the forthcoming 2017 V Festival to deliver road safety messages to festivalgoers.

The annual V Festival (V Fest) is taking place in Hylands Park near Chelmsford over the weekend of 18-20 August and is expected to attract more than 100,000 people.

ECRFS and SERP will use V Fest as an opportunity to focus on what they have identified as the four biggest dangers while driving: inappropriate speed; using a mobile phone/distraction; not wearing a seatbelt; and drink/drug driving.

In particular, the partners will focus on the dangers of drink and drug driving, and pedestrian safety.

Andy Stroulger, Essex Fire & Rescue Service road traffic casualty reduction manager, said:

“In addition to our multi-media Community Wheels vehicle and the Audi S3 Fire Car, we will also have on site an Audi Q7 kindly donated by Essex Audi.

“The team will be working hard to encourage festivalgoers to keep themselves safe and to take road safety very seriously, not only when leaving the Festival, but as part of their everyday lives.

“Festivalgoers will also have the opportunity to experience the reality of what can happen when things going wrong, through our new virtual reality technology which shows users the reality of a road traffic collision from the front seat passenger’s perspective.”
