SERP prepares for busy summer of cycle training

SERP bikeability

With the school summer holidays on the horizon, the Safer Essex Roads Partnership has unveiled a comprehensive programme of cycling courses for riders of all ages.

During late July and throughout August, courses will be taking place in Colchester, Chelmsford and Harlow.

Courses include:

  • Learn to Ride: for children or adults who are unable to cycle. This includes anyone who is struggling to master the skill, young children who are ready to make the move to riding without stabilisers, and adults who have never learnt to cycle.
  • Bikeability Level 1: At Level 1, new riders learn to control and master their bike in an area away from traffic – such as a playground or closed car park.
  • Bikeability Level 2: Level 2 training takes place on local streets, giving trainees a real cycling experience. Trainees learn how to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school or the local shops.
  • Bikeability Level 3: Level 3 equips trainees with the skills required for more challenging roads and traffic situations – including busier streets, queuing traffic, complex junctions and roundabouts. It also includes planning routes for safe cycling.

All courses cost £10 – to request a booking form or for more information, email: SaferEssexRoads@essexhighways.org
