Upcoming cycling courses

SERP bikeability

The Safer Essex Roads Partnership has organised a series of cycling courses for the summer holidays.

Courses on offer:

  • Learn to Ride: for children or adults who are unable to cycle. This includes anything from those struggling to master the skill, children who are ready to make the move to riding with pedals, or adults who have never learnt to cycle. The course is for 45 mins and max for 2 riders to one instructor.
  • Bikeability Level 1: At Level 1 new riders learn to control and master their bike in a space away from traffic such as a playground or closed car park. Training is for 2 hours, for riders over the age of 5.
  • Bikeability Level 1& 2: The course is delivered over 2 days, for children aged 9 and over. This course is a combined level 1 & level 2 ,the course starts on a playground or similar off-road environment. If your child doesn’t reach the requirements for level 1 – (the ability to ride in a straight line whilst looking behind or, riding with one hand whilst keeping control of the bike, and demonstrate a responsible attitude and good behaviour), they will not be deemed safe to progress to level 2, (the on-road training, you will receive a phone call to pick your child up). Level 2 takes place on local streets, giving trainees a real cycling experience. Trainees learn how to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school or the local shops.
  • Bikeability Level 3: Level 3 equips trainees with skills for more challenging roads and traffic situations – busier streets, queuing traffic, complex junctions and roundabouts. It also includes planning routes for safe cycling. The course is for 4 hours for riders over the age of 11.

All courses are £10 – to request a booking form or for more information, email: SaferEssexRoads@essexhighways.org
