What is the ‘Your Belt/Your Life scheme?

The Your Belt/Your Life scheme provides an educational alternative to prosecution. It is designed to explain why it is important to wear a seatbelt. The scheme was created by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO – now NPCC) and is administered by AA DriveTech.

What does the course involve?

The online course will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will be taken through interactive e-learning screens which will highlight the positives of wearing a seatbelt. There is a quiz at the end of the course which will gauge what you have learnt from the course. What is 24/7?

An abbreviation of AA DriveTech’s customer care team’s opening hours, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Can I fail?

There is a short quiz at the end of the course. You will be expected to achieve a minimum pass mark of seven out of 10. There is no limit on the number of quiz attempts you can have, so long as the quiz is successfully completed prior to the completion deadline date, which is shown on the front of your letter.

Will the course benefit me?

The cost of the course will be less than the fine. You will also be given the opportunity to learn something new and increase your awareness on road safety.

Can I attend the course voluntarily?

No. The courses are only available to those offenders referred to us by a police force.

Can I pay by instalments?

No, payment can only be made at the time of booking using either a credit or debit card.

What happens to the personal information I provide?

Your personal information will not be given to any organisation not directly involved in the operation of the scheme. The anonymous information you provide may be used for research purposes to help identify benefits of the scheme and develop potential future training programmes. All information is retained for six years.

How do I decline the offer of the Your Belt/Your Life scheme?

To decline this offer please complete the Fixed Penalty form sent to you by the police. This will arrive with you a few days after the initial course invitation letter.

My completion deadline date has passed. Can I still take part in the scheme?

The course must be completed before the completion deadline date. Failure to do so will result in you being issued with a fine from the police. If you have already paid for the course and your completion deadline date passes, you will not be issued with a refund. See our clause on ‘Payment’ in our Terms and Conditions.

Do I need to inform the police that I have completed the course?

No, we will advise the police that you have successfully completed a course.

If I offend again, can I attend a further course?

You cannot take part in the Your Belt/Your Life course within three years of the first offence date.
