SERP is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate rather than prosecute drivers who have committed certain road traffic offences such as failing to comply with a red traffic light signal.
The What’s Driving Us (WDU) course has been introduced to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £100 fine and three penalty points to be endorsed on their licence. In some situations it could prevent a summons to attend court being issued.
The courses are only available by referral from the police.
What is the course about?
The course is a full participation course which gives attendees the chance to think about what they like and dislike about driving and how other people’s driving affects them. Through presentations and discussion, attendees gain insight into the decisions people make when driving on the road and encourages them to think about the decisions that they themselves make.
There is no test to be taken on the course but drivers must fully participate to complete the course.
