National Speed Awareness Course 20mph (NSAC 20)

NSAC20-main

SERP is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate rather than prosecute drivers who have exceeded specific speed limits.

The purpose of the NSAC 20 course is to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £100 fine and three penalty points to be endorsed on their licence. In some situations it could prevent a summons to attend court being issued.

The courses are only available by referral from the police.

What is the course about?

The course content covers the following elements:

  • Raising awareness of 20mph speed limits and how to identify them.
  • Understanding the need for 20mph limits and the consequences of speeding in them.
  • Helping manage the way you drive in 20mph limits.
  • Helping you to think about how you are driving and can make communities safer.
  • Strategies to help you drive safely within the speed limit.

There is no test to be taken on the course but drivers must fully participate to complete the course.

How long is the course?

The courses are of 3¼ hours’ duration and are delivered by qualified and licensed NDORS trainers, currently at Basildon, Brentwood or Harlow.
