Rural driving

Recent studies have identified that 16 – 29 year old rural young drivers (RYD) are:

  • 44% more likely to be involved in an injury collision than urban young drivers (UYD)
  • (RYD) are 58% more likely to be involved in a collision on rural roads than their Urban Counterparts (UYD)
  • 60mph roads are a factor in 68% of crashes involving (RYD)
  • (RYD) are 27% more likely to be involved in a collision not at a junction
  • 52% (RYD) are 52% more likely to be involved in a collision on a bend than (UYD)
  • (RYD) are 63% more likely to be involved in a collision in the dark that  (UYD) and 45% more than rural adults

It’s all too easy to loose control on bends and on road surfaces that are wet when you lack the experience to read the road.  Further driving tuition such as Pass Plus or and observed ride from the Institute of Advances Motorists (IAM) or even help from your parents prepares you for these conditions.
