You fail

Never mind, plenty of people who are very good drivers, fail their first test. You’ll find out if you’ve passed or failed straight after the test. And you can ask the examiner for on the spot feedback about where you failed. You will also get a driving report form, which shows the mistakes you made.

“Not everyone passes their practical test first time. I passed on my second attempt and had around 20 lessons! My first car was a black Volkswagen Golf and I loved it!” says West Ham footballer Mark Noble.

The most common reasons for failing are a dodgy manoeuvre – reverse parking, for instance – and bad observation – not checking your mirrors, or not checking well enough at a junction.

You’ll have to wait 10 working days before you can retake the practical driving test. You don’t have to take the theory tests again.
