34 people arrested for drink or drug driving offences in one weekend!

Thirty-four people were arrested as part of our Summer Anti-Drink and Drug Driving Campaign over the weekend.

The 29 men and five women were arrested on suspicion of drink or drug related offences between Friday, June 24 and Sunday, June 26, 2016. That brings the total number of arrests since the launch of the campaign on June 10, 2016 to 104. Of those arrested, 86 have been male and 18 female.

Of those arrested over the weekend, 13 have been charged with offences and are due to appear at court at various dates throughout July. Eleven of those charged have been charged with drink driving. They are: Susan Wilsdon, 61, of Coach Lane, Maldon is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 25, 2016 charged with drink driving. She was arrested at Green Lane, Althorne at 7.40pm on June 25, 2016. Atele Ndamba, of Parkfield Road, Harlow is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 11, 2016 charged with drink driving.

The 27-year-old was arrested on High Road, Loughton at just before 3am on June 25, 2016. Ion Pop of Malgreaves, Pitsea is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with drink driving. The 30-year-old was arrested at Southmayne, Basildon just before 2am on June 26, 2016.

Paul Sunil, 24, of Antelope Way, Cambridge was arrested on the A13 at Thurrock at 7.40am on June 25, 2016. He has now been charged with drink driving and is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 28, 2016.

Edward Sigournay of Wills Green, Colchester is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 26, 2016 charged with drink driving. He was arrested at Wills Green, Colchester at 1.50am on June 26, 2016. Anthony Hawes of John Barnes Walk, London, E15 is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with drink driving. The 33-year-old was arrested at junction seven of the M11 roundabout at 4.10am on June 26, 2016. Dane Scullion, 29, of Circular Road South, Colchester is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 26, 2016 charged with drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. He was arrested at Long Green, Colchester at 11.40am on June 26, 2016. Gary Weiner of Palmerstone Road, Buckhurst Hill is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with drink driving.

The 43-year-old was arrested at Chigwell Rise, Chigwell at 7.40pm on June 26, 2016. Darren Wren of Suffield Road, London, E4 is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with drink driving. The 26-year-old was arrested on the M11 at Chigwell just before 9.30pm on June 26, 2016. Jed Spooner,26, of Bond Street, Ipswich, Suffolk is due at appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 11, 2016 charged with drink driving.

He was arrested at St Johns Road, Clacton at 1.15am on June 25, 2016. Christopher Shepherd of Kenley Close, Wickford is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 26, 2016 charged with drink driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with the terms of his licence. The 44-year-old was arrested at London Road, Wickford at 6.30pm on June 24, 2016. Two drivers have been charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when required to do so.

They are: Janine Chinery of Limes Avenue, Chigwell is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis. The 31-year-old was arrested at Cranes Farm Road, Basildon at just before 2am on June 26, 2016. Willies Nyathi of Bluebell Close, Romford is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on the morning of July 12, 2016 charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis. The 36-year-old was arrested on the A1245 at Rayleigh at just after 4.30am on June 26, 2016. Four people were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drug driving.

They are a 30-year-old man from Waltham Abbey, a 53-year-old man from Ilford, a 35-year-old man from Harwich and a 20-year-old man from Sible Hedingham. They have all been released on bail to various dates in August and September pending laboratory testing of the samples they provided.

Adam Pipe, Casualty Reduction Manager at Essex Police, said: “I hope these arrests send out a clear message to drivers thinking about getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Our officers are out there and they will catch you. If you drink and/or take drug, be warned – it really is only a matter of time before you’re arrested and put before the courts.”
