30+ drivers caught speeding during traffic operation

Officers from Essex Police casualty reduction section stopped 35 drivers for speeding offences during a recent one-day operation in Canvey Island.
Staged on 24 January, the operation is the latest in a series designed to help reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on the county’s roads through a combination of engagement and enforcement.
A one-day operation held in Basildon on 8 January resulted in three people being arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
As a result of the Canvey Island operation, 19 drivers were also caught driving while using their mobile phone, while 13 were dealt with for not wearing a seatbelt.
Nine drivers were found to be driving without a valid MOT and one without a valid driving licence. Two drivers were found to be driving without valid insurance and had their cars seized under Section 165.
In addition, three arrests were made during the operation.
A 29-year-old man from Tilbury was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs and on suspicion of dangerous driving.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, while a 22-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply, and possession of an offensive weapon.
